The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftancy and Religious Affairs, and the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service, has organized a one-day tailor-made Organizational Development Training for 61 District Assemblies. The training was held at the Zabzugu District Assembly under the theme: “Building High Performing District Assemblies in Ghana.”
The workshop was designed to strengthen the capacities of participating District Assemblies to meet District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) compliance requirements and improve their overall institutional performance. The training addressed critical areas such as effective service delivery, organizational efficiency, accountability, and innovation in local governance.
Speaking at the event, facilitators emphasized that the success of Ghana’s decentralization agenda depends heavily on the ability of District Assemblies to operate as high-performing institutions that are responsive to the needs of citizens. They highlighted that aligning organizational practices with DPAT indicators is not only necessary for compliance but also a pathway to sustainable development and improved service delivery at the local level.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to build their skills and share experiences, noting that the training provided practical strategies for improving performance in their respective districts. The event also created a platform for cross-learning and networking among assemblies facing similar development challenges.
The ILGS and its collaborating partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting District Assemblies through capacity-building initiatives aimed at deepening decentralization, promoting good governance, and accelerating socio-economic development across Ghana.
